Godfrey, Georgia
The community known today as Godfrey was also known as Hamburg, Evansville, Antioch and Egypt. The present name is derived from Dr. Ervin Godfrey. During much of its history, Godfrey depended on the Georgia railroad. Passenger oriented business thrived. At one time there were eight stores, a bank, barber shop, livery stable, ice house, cotton gin, warehouse, peach shed, railroad depot and post office. Due to the automotive age and the cessation of much of the railroad activities, Godfrey is primarily a farming and residential community.
